On the back of this photo, Frances wrote: Our 50th Anniversary - July 8 - 1972 Fran and Holly. At the time, Holly was 74 and Fran had just turned 72.

  2. Elizabeth Marie Jordan, wife of Frances’ brother Herbert Jordan
  3. Chuck and Josephine Jordan, Frances’ brother Charles Jordan

By 1972 brothers Herbert Jordan, Art and MyraJordan had passed away. It is possible brother Eddie attended but he had moved away and was living with his new family in Mexico. Likely many nieces and nephews in the LA area also attended. And of course their many many friends from 50 years in sunny California.

What Frances’ generation of siblings knew that I am just realizing in 2024 is that the reason there are so many offspring of James Oscar and Margaret Knowles Jordan Graham family in the Los Angeles area is because of Frances’ decision in 1922 to leave family and friends behind in Chicago to marry her Chicago boyfriend, Ernest Hollinshead.

In November 1920, Ernests’ parents decided to move to LA and their son Ernest was part of that move. Previously I thought Frances moved to LA because her mother and her new husband Robert Graham moved to LA sometime in the 1920s with most of their children. But after researching more about Frances and Ernest I found it was the other way around. Frances was in LA before any of the other Jordans! And the magnet of a sunny climate and her only daughter in LA attracted Frances’ mother, Margaret Graham and her new husband Robert Graham shortly thereafter with two young sons. And gradually over the next decades all Frances’ brothers moved to the LA area.
